With the assistance of the Shanghai

Municipal Police the necessary Russian Guards

were secured and commenced their duties

early in June. They have been operating to

the entire satisfaction of the Canadian

Pacific Steamships Ltd., who consider them

efficient, reliable and under excellent

discipline.

The Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd., employ

14 out of a total of 30 Russians recruited.

The China Navigation Co., employs 12 and the

remaining 4 consist of one N.C.O. in charge

of the Russian Contingent and 3 spare men

to fill vacancies due to leave, sickness or

other cause. Two of these will be required

to take charge of Relief Guards for China

Navigation Co., steamers.

II. British India Steam Navigation Co., Ltd.

III. Indo China Steam Navigation Co., Ltd.

These Shipping Companies requisitioned Indian

Guards under European supervision. Their

requirements included 4 separate Guards under

Hong Kong (British) Police Sergeants, to take

charge of 8 ships (4 of each Company) between

Hong Kong and Singapore:-

(i) 4 Hong Kong Police Sergeants, British.

(ii) 4 Hong Kong Police Indian Sergeants

(Special Guards).

(iii) 32 Hong Kong Police, Indian, Rank and

file, (Special Guards).

These Guards transfer from ship to ship as

required
